Quick Answer

To convert kg to viss, divide kilograms by 1.63293 — one viss (Myanmar's standard market weight, the peittha) equals exactly 1.63293 kg, 100 ticals, or 3.6 lb. For example, 10 kg = 6.1240 viss and 1 viss = 1,632.93 g.

One viss (ပိဿာ, peittha) balances exactly 1.63293 kg — 100 kyattha (ticals) or 3.6 lb. This kg to viss calculator uses the exact statutory factor in both directions.

Kg to Viss Formula (1 Viss = 1.63293 kg)

The viss — peittha in Burmese — is Myanmar’s standard market weight, and it converts to metric with one exact number. A viss is defined as 3.6 lb, which makes it 1.63293 kg, and it divides into 100 kyattha (ticals) of 16.3293 g each. The viss to kg formula therefore runs both ways with the same factor:

viss = kg ÷ 1.63293   and   kg = viss × 1.63293
So 10 kg ÷ 1.63293 = 6.1240 viss, and 1 viss = 1.63293 kg = 1,632.93 g = 3.6 lb exactly.

Everything the factor implies, in one reference row set:

How to Use the Kg to Viss Calculator

  1. Pick the direction.

Tap kg → viss to turn kilograms into viss, or viss → kg to go the other way.

  2. Type the weight.

Enter one number. For viss-and-tical weights, use a decimal — 3 viss 25 ticals is simply 3.25, because ticals are hundredths of a viss.

  3. Read the answer.

The big number is your conversion; under it the tool spells out the market reading (like “6 viss 12.4 tical”), with ticals, pounds, ounces and grams in the grid below.

Myanmar Weight Units: Viss, Kyattha (Tical), Mu & Pè

The viss sits at the top of a clean, mostly halving ladder of traditional Myanmar weight units. Everything is anchored to the kyattha — the tical — at 16.3293 g, and 100 of them make one viss. Yangon’s reference gold prices are still quoted per tical, so the same ladder covers the gold shop and the vegetable stall:

Achein taya10,000 ticals (100 viss)163.293 kg

Myanmar announced its move to the metric system in October 2013, but the viss and tical remain the everyday units at wet markets, gold shops and in commodity price reporting — which is why converting between kg and viss is still daily work for traders, shippers and the Myanmar diaspora. For gram-level gold weights, the Gram to Viss Calculator works directly in ticals and troy ounces; for metric-to-US cooking weights, the Grams to mL Calculator handles the kitchen side.

Worked Examples: Market, Gold, Baggage & Price Conversions

Four conversions exactly as the calculator runs them, plus the price-flip every importer eventually needs:

Price rule of thumb: a price per viss divided by 1.63293 is the price per kg — and a price per kg times 1.63293 is the price per viss. The weight factor and the price factor are the same number, just applied in opposite directions.

Why Rounded Factors (1.63, 0.613) Drift by Whole Ticals

Many online converters round the viss to 1.63 kg, or use 0.613 as the kg-to-viss multiplier. Both look harmless and both are wrong enough to see on a scale. The exact multiplier is 1 ÷ 1.63293 = 0.6123963…, so at 100 kg the rounded factor reports 61.30 viss instead of 61.2396 viss — an overstatement of 6.04 ticals (about 98.6 g). In the other direction, calling 100 viss “163.0 kg” instead of 163.293 kg leaves 293 g on the table.

Where it bites: Yangon reference gold prices are quoted per tical, and wholesale produce moves in hundreds of viss. A converter that drifts 6 ticals per 100 kg is quietly mispricing every bulk deal. This calculator always uses the statutory 1.63293 kg — never the rounded 1.63.

Kg to Viss Calculator: FAQ

One viss equals exactly 1.63293 kg (1,632.93 g), which is 3.6 lb. The viss — peittha in Burmese — is Myanmar’s statutory market weight and divides into 100 kyattha (ticals) of 16.3293 g each.

Divide the kilograms by 1.63293. For example, 10 kg ÷ 1.63293 = 6.1240 viss, which a market scale reads as “6 viss 12.4 ticals”.

Exactly 100 — one kyattha (tical) is 16.3293 g. Yangon’s reference gold prices are quoted per tical, so gold weights convert with the same ladder: 100 g of gold is 6.1240 ticals.

Type 3.25 — because a viss is 100 ticals, ticals are simply the hundredths place of a viss. 3 viss 25 ticals = 3.25 viss = 5.3070 kg.

Exactly 3.6 lb (57.6 oz) — the viss is defined against the pound, which is why the metric value 1.63293 kg is exact rather than an approximation.

Yes. Myanmar’s Ministry of Commerce announced the move to the metric system in October 2013, but wet markets, gold shops and commodity price reports still run on viss and ticals, so both systems live side by side.

100 viss = 163.293 kg (360 lb) — a quantity traditional Burmese usage names the achein taya. Wholesale produce and freight quotes in Myanmar commonly move in multiples of it.
