How it’s calculated

Quick Answer

To convert grams to viss, divide grams by 1,632.93 — one viss equals exactly 1,632.93 g, or 100 kyattha (ticals) of 16.3293 g each. So 500 g = 0.3062 viss (30.62 ticals), and a 100 g gold bar is 6.1240 ticals.

Gram to viss conversion — gold bars weighed against Myanmar tical (kyattha) weights, 1 viss = 1,632.93 grams = 100 ticals
Gram-range weights are the gold side of the viss system: 1 viss = 1,632.93 g, and Yangon bullion is quoted per kyattha (tical) of 16.3293 g. This gram to viss calculator reports both, plus troy ounces.

Gram to Viss Formula (1 Viss = 1,632.93 g)

One viss — Myanmar’s statutory market weight, the peittha — is exactly 1,632.93 grams, because the viss is defined as 3.6 lb. It divides into 100 kyattha (ticals) of 16.3293 g each, the unit Yangon gold prices are quoted in. The gram to viss conversion runs both ways with one factor:

viss = g ÷ 1,632.93   and   ticals = g ÷ 16.3293
So 500 g ÷ 1,632.93 = 0.3062 viss (30.62 ticals), and 100 g = 6.1240 ticals.

How to Use the Gram to Viss Calculator

  1. Pick the direction.

Tap g → viss to turn grams into viss and ticals, or viss → g to go the other way.

  2. Type the weight.

Enter one number. For viss-and-tical weights, use a decimal — 3 viss 25 ticals is simply 3.25, because ticals are hundredths of a viss.

  3. Read the answer.

The big number is your conversion; under it sits the gold-shop reading in kyattha (ticals), with troy ounces, regular ounces and kilograms in the grid below.

Gold Weights: Grams to Ticals (Kyattha) & Troy Ounces

Myanmar bullion is priced per tical — the Yangon gold associations publish their reference prices that way — while international gold trades in troy ounces and gram bars. The three systems lock together exactly, because every unit here is a whole number of grains: the viss is 3.6 lb = 25,200 grains, so 1 tical = 252 grains = 0.525 troy oz = 1.4 tola, all exact. Standard bar sizes convert like this:

Gold weightKyattha (ticals)Troy ounces
1 g bar0.0612 tical0.0322 ozt
5 g bar0.3062 tical0.1608 ozt
10 g bar0.6124 tical0.3215 ozt
20 g bar1.2248 ticals0.6430 ozt
50 g bar3.0620 ticals1.6075 ozt
100 g bar6.1240 ticals3.2151 ozt
1 troy oz coin (31.1035 g)1.9048 ticals1 ozt
1 kilobar (1,000 g)61.2396 ticals32.1507 ozt

Price flip: a Yangon price per tical divided by 16.3293 is the price per gram — and a world price per troy ounce times 0.525 is the price per tical. Both factors are exact.

Three Gold-Weight Traps: Troy Ounces, Tola vs Tical & Rounded Factors

Most gram-to-viss mistakes are not arithmetic — they are unit mix-ups. The three that actually cost money:

1. Regular vs troy ounces: 100 g is 3.5274 regular oz but only 3.2151 troy oz — a 9.7% gap. Gold always uses troy; this calculator shows both so the difference is visible.
2. Tola is not tical: the South Asian tola is 11.6638 g (180 grains); the Myanmar tical is 16.3293 g (252 grains). One tical is exactly 1.4 tola — treat them as interchangeable and you are 40% off.
3. Rounded factors: converters that use 16.33, 1,633 or a truncated 0.0612 multiplier drift on bulk amounts. The exact statutory values are 16.3293 g and 1,632.93 g — this tool never rounds them.

Gram to Viss Calculator: FAQ

Exactly 1,632.93 g — the viss (peittha) is defined as 3.6 lb and divides into 100 kyattha (ticals) of 16.3293 g each. That also makes it 1.63293 kg or 52.5002 troy ounces.

Divide the grams by 1,632.93. For example, 500 g ÷ 1,632.93 = 0.3062 viss, which is 30.62 ticals on a gold-shop or market scale.

16.3293 g — exactly 252 grains, or 1/100 of a viss. Yangon’s reference gold prices are quoted per tical, so a 100 g bar is 6.1240 ticals.

1 troy oz (31.1035 g) = 1.9048 ticals, and going the other way is exact: 1 tical = 0.525 troy oz, because a tical is 252 grains and a troy ounce is 480 grains.

No. The tola is 11.6638 g (180 grains) while the tical is 16.3293 g (252 grains) — one tical is exactly 1.4 tola. Mixing them up misstates a gold weight by 40%.

Troy ounces — bullion is always priced per troy oz of 31.1035 g, not the regular (avoirdupois) ounce of 28.3495 g. The two differ by about 9.7%, which is why this calculator reports both separately.

816.47 g — 50 ticals, a quantity traditional Burmese usage calls the ngase tha. A quarter viss (25 ticals, the aseittha) is 408.23 g.
