In Evony: The King's Return, total march size = Rally Spot base × (1 + all march-size % buffs) + flat bonuses — the percentages multiply only the Rally Spot base, never your buffed total. A layered PvP march then keeps one thin layer (commonly 1,000 troops) of every tier and type as a buffer and puts the rest into a single top-tier main stack.

How Evony March Size Is Calculated

Your march size is built from three parts: the Rally Spot base (the building’s own capacity — 800 at level 1, rising to 860,000 at level 45), every march-size percentage buff you own, and every flat bonus. The part most players get wrong: the percentages multiply only the Rally Spot base, never your already-buffed total.

Total march size = Rally Spot base × (1 + Σ% buffs) + Σ flat bonuses.
A level-45 Rally Spot (860,000) with +100% research shows 860,000 + 860,000 = 1,720,000; a level-1 spot (800) with the same +100% shows 800 + 800 = 1,600.

Because every percentage stacks additively on the same base, one extra buff always adds base × that % — a +15% ring on an 860,000 base adds 129,000 troops whether your march is 1 million or 3 million. The calculator’s what-if field uses exactly this rule, so you can price a new ring, dragon level or Imperial Seal level in troops before you chase it.

Maximum March Size by Keep Level

The figures above already include a +200% march-size item. Replacing it with a +300% Battlefield item adds another 100% of the Rally Spot base, rather than adding 300% again. Your own research, equipment and other buffs may produce a different total.

Planning Troop Layers

A layered march keeps a thin slice — commonly 1,000 troops — of every tier of every troop type below your main stack. Community guides describe layers as a way to influence targeting and protect higher-tier troops, but their explanations of hidden combat rounds are theories tested through play. This calculator plans a chosen main stack plus smaller layers; it does not predict battle results or identify an optimal march. Experienced players keep three preset attack marches (ranged, ground, mounted) plus a ghosting march, and rebuild the layers after every fight. Rebuilding them costs training time, which the Evony troop calculator prices for any quantity once your training-speed bonus is applied.

When your main troop type is included in the layered set, layer slots = tiers × layered types − 1, because the main stack occupies one slot. If the main type is outside that set, no slot is subtracted. A T14 march layering all 4 types has 14 × 4 − 1 = 55 layer slots; at 1,000 each that is 55,000 troops of buffers, and everything else goes into the main stack.

Attack-layer sizes vary with the player and target; 1,000 troops is an example, not a universal minimum. Defensive (in-wall) layers are larger in the cited community guide, which gives these keep-level ranges:

How to Use the Evony March Calculator

    Type your Rally Spot base capacity, the sum of your march-size % buffs (research, general, ring, dragon, seal, officer) and the sum of your flat bonuses (research flats, VIP, War Horn, title, citizens).

Don’t multiply your total. A +20% buff on a 3,000,000 march does not add 600,000 troops. If your Rally Spot base is 860,000, it adds 860,000 × 20% = 172,000 — the percentages only ever see the base.

Frequently Asked Questions

Total march size = Rally Spot base × (1 + the sum of your march-size % buffs) + the sum of your flat bonuses. The base is the Rally Spot building’s own capacity (800 at level 1 up to 860,000 at level 45); percentages multiply that base only, and flats from research, VIP, War Horn, titles and citizens are added on top.

No — every march-size % multiplies the Rally Spot base only, never your buffed total. That is why one extra +15% always adds the same number of troops (base × 15%) whether you already have +100% or +400% in other buffs. The calculator’s what-if field prices any new buff this way.

It depends on keep level and buffs. The cited reference builds range from about 518,000 at K26 to about 4.5 million at K40, already including a +200% temporary item and the source’s listed research and equipment. These are example builds, so your own march capacity may differ. Replacing that item with a +300% item adds another 100% of the Rally Spot base.

The cited community guide uses 1,000-troop attack layers as an example, while allowing smaller or larger layers for different players and targets. It describes hidden-round mechanics as theories tested through play. The remaining troops go to your chosen top-tier main stack; this allocation is not a prediction of the strongest battle formation.

Level the Rally Spot first — every % buff multiplies its base, so the base is worth the most. Then stack the big percentages (Advanced and Supreme Coordination research at +100% each, Imperial Seal up to +74.5%, duty officers up to +30%, dragons up to +20%) and the big flats (Advanced Prestige +100,000, VIP up to +160,000, Regent title +100,000, War Horn up to +60,000).
