Audiobook Percentage Formula: Position ÷ Length × 100
Three numbers come out of one position, and only the first is a percentage. Keeping them apart is the whole job of this audiobook percentage calculator:
Content left = Book length − Time listened
Listening left = Content left ÷ Playback speed
Example: 3 h 30 min of a 14 h book is 25%, with 10 h 30 min of content left, which is 7 h of listening at 1.5×.
Every audiobook runtime is quoted at 1×, so the book length you type is the published runtime whatever speed you actually play it at. Type the runtime, not your adjusted estimate — the calculator does the adjusting.
Why Your Percentage Doesn’t Move When You Speed Up
This is the part that trips people up, and it is the reason most progress tools give a misleading answer. A percentage measures the book. A duration measures your afternoon. They are not the same quantity, and they only agree at 1×.
Speeding up the narration does not move you through the story. You have not heard any more words than you had a second ago, so the fraction of the book behind you is unchanged. What changes is how long the rest will take — and that is a wall-clock number, not a percentage.

Read down the columns: two of them never move and one halves. A 14-hour book with 3 h 30 min listened is 25% done at every speed in that table. The only column that responds to the speed setting is the last one.

Audiobook Hours to Printed Pages: Convert Through Words, Not Hours
“How many pages is this audiobook?” gets answered badly almost everywhere, because most answers use a pages-per-hour rate. That rate cannot be stable: a page is a unit of paper, not a unit of content. Change the trim size, the font or the leading and the page count moves while the book stays identical.
What does not move is the word count. So the honest conversion goes through words in two steps:

Hours to words
Audiobooks are produced to a planning standard of about 9,300 words per finished hour — the ACX figure, which is simply 155 words per minute × 60. A 10 h 30 min remainder is 10.5 × 9,300 = 97,650 words.

Divide by the words on a printed page. A survey of 900+ authors by Kindlepreneur puts that at 233 words per page for non-fiction and 280 for fiction. So 97,650 words is roughly 349 pages of a novel or 419 pages of non-fiction.

Take the first row step by step. 3 h 30 min is 210 minutes and 14 h is 840, so 210 ÷ 840 = 25%. The content left is 840 − 210 = 630 minutes, or 10 h 30 min. At 1.5× that becomes 630 ÷ 1.5 = 420 minutes — 7 hours of listening. And 630 minutes is 10.5 audiobook hours, or 97,650 words, which lands between 349 and 419 printed pages depending on how the book is set.
Why Chapter Number Is a Poor Guide to Your Percentage
A common shortcut is to read progress off the chapter list: chapter 12 of 30 must be 40%. It is a reasonable instinct and it is usually wrong, because chapters are not equal lengths. Publishers break a book where the story breaks, not on a timer.
The distortion runs in a predictable direction. Opening chapters tend to be shorter while the book establishes itself; middle chapters run longest; and the final “chapter” in an audiobook file list is frequently not a chapter at all but the closing credits, an author’s note or an excerpt from the next book. A 30-item chapter list can easily contain two or three items that are not story, which pushes every chapter-based estimate too low.
Finishing Before a Deadline: Daily Listening Needed
Library loans, book clubs and long flights all pose the same question, and it is the one the percentage cannot answer on its own. Convert the content still ahead of you into real listening hours first, then divide by the days you have. The table below assumes 1.5× playback:

Read the third row against a typical routine. Ten and a half hours of content left sounds like a lost cause with a week to go, but at 1.5× it is seven hours of listening — exactly one hour a day, which is a normal commute. The same remainder at 1× would demand an hour and a half a day, and at 2× it drops to about forty-five minutes. That is the practical value of separating the two “left” figures: one of them tells you whether the deadline is realistic and the other one cannot.
